I am a fully qualified and experienced teacher with five years’ experience in education, having worked with both upper primary students, secondary students and adults. Working with such a diverse student base has equipped me with different approaches, resources and deep understanding of my chosen subjects: history and English. My passion for education has led me from tutoring part-time to now tutoring full time, where I can fully dedicate my expertise to my students. I take pride in building a strong rapport with my students, tailoring my lessons to their needs. They (and parents) are kept fully informed of the lesson objectives and expectations throughout their time with me. I am flexible and adaptable to my students' needs and preferences - always ensuring that they feel happy, comfortable and supported in our lessons.
English is a subject I love; I have studied this to degree level and taught students up to GCSE level. I offer lessons from year 5 up to year 11 at GCSE. Spelling, punctuation and grammar will be a focus in both literature and language lessons, as it is imperative to build a good foundation of written English. Here’s an example of things we can do:
• Linking context and history to literature
• character development and themes
• the author's intent & message
• work on the interpretation of texts
• practising creative writing and strengthening vocabulary
History is a truly awesome and interesting subject. I enjoyed it so much that I completed a master’s degree in international history, then qualified as a history teacher. I have a lot of knowledge and passion about the subject, as well as experience teaching it up to GCSE level. Here’s an example of things we can do:
• Work on your historical knowledge and historical context
• Analyse both written and picture sources
• Essay writing/exam questions
• Work on general understanding of school work, homework and lessons
Maths (teaching year 5 to year 8)
• maths - topics such as ratio, place value, percentages, fractions and decimals (to name a few!)
• arithmetic and non-calculator - times tables (no matter what school year you’re in!), how to approach these questions, gaining confidence without a calculator
