My name is Viveka, I'm 28 and I have been teaching Philosophy at a secondary school for 5 years. I've also worked as a German teacher, and I studied Philosophy and German at the University of Oxford.
I love tutoring because because it contains the aspects of teaching that I really enjoy: conveying my interest in a topic, explaining complex concepts clearly and working one on one with students.
I find philosophical questions fascinating because by definition they do not have a known answer (examples would be questions about God, free will or consciousness).
I love languages too; as well as having a degree in German, I have an A level in French and a GCSE in Italian. I am half Swedish, so I am also a native speaker of Swedish. I have studied German literature, from the medieval to the post-war period, and I am also particularly interested in etymology (the study of the origins of words) and in the intersection between linguistics and history.
I enjoy teaching critical thinking and essay writing. Whether studied as part of Philosophy or as a subject in its own right, critical thinking is the only subject that actually teaches you how to think, and is therefore the most formidable tool you could have mastery over.
