Hi everyone, I’m Alex!

I'm a qualified primary school teacher with several years of experience teaching in London. Before that, I taught English as a foreign language in both Peru and China.

I'll be tutoring primary school children following the UK curriculum, as well as offering English as a Foreign Language.

Maths Tutoring

When it comes to maths, I firmly believe that consistent practice, clear guidance, and a structured approach are key to making progress. I've had the pleasure of seeing many children in my class flourish, and I'm sure I can help your child do the same. It's incredibly rewarding to see students move up from 'Working Towards' to 'Expected' and 'Expected' to 'Greater Depth' grade boundaries!

My approach focuses on consistent and clear arithmetic practice as the foundation. Through this repetition of essential skills, students build confidence and become much more comfortable with maths—and in their newfound mastery, dare I say, even start to enjoy tackling number problems! We then apply this newfound confidence to tackle reasoning and word-based problems, helping students understand how to use their arithmetic skills effectively.

Primary English (UK Curriculum)

My experience as a primary teacher has equipped me with strategies that children find useful, fun, and confidence-building. We'll work on building strong foundational skills through focused practice, including dictation to reinforce spelling and grammar. I'll pinpoint and address common tricky grammar points for this age group, ensuring their fundamentals are grammatically sound. Beyond the basics, we'll also explore ways to add flair and creativity to their writing, helping them develop their unique voice and confidently express their ideas.

English as a Foreign Language (EFL/ESL) Tutoring

I also relish helping people improve their English language skills. As a language learner myself, I've experienced countless methods and teachers. Combined with my teaching experiences abroad, I'm confident that my clear and structured style will help you achieve your language learning goals.

I favour TPRS (Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling) and other comprehensible input methods. With these approaches, you'll be immersed in the English language in a way that feels achievable and understandable, making your learning journey enjoyable and effective.
