My first degree is a joint honours degree in History and Sociology and my master’s and PhD degrees are both in the discipline of Sociology. Whilst at Salford, the OU, and then at Massey University, I taught across Sociology, Criminology, and Social Work programmes, teaching both undergraduate and post-graduate modules on Sociology, Social Theory, Politics, Comparative Systems of welfare, Social Policy and Sociological research methods. I am Fellow of the Higher Education Academy teaching as well having a PGCE in FE and HE teaching. I have for the past fifteen years taught AS/A-Level History and Sociology privately, initially face to face then from 2016, online; teaching 33 students, with 100% pass rate and 93% success rate, in students attaining a level 5 or level 4 grade in the exam. Furthermore, I currently act as an Associate Examiner for the AQA Exam Board, and in summer 2024 I worked with 10- A-Level Students (Level 13) through various online tutoring companies, providing teaching in History and Sociology.I have extensive experience in the design and delivery of online courses (further developed by teaching degree courses online between 2020-2022) and an excellent understand of both pedagogy and andragogy and in particular designing and tailoring individual lesson plans to enable 16-18 year olds make the transition from pedagogical (child centred) to andragogical (adult-centred learning) to enable them to become more proactive about their learning so to make the transition from studying at A level, to Level 4 at degree level.
