Hello! My name is Olga and I am passionate about teaching. My mission in life is to help my students achieve their full potential and have fun along the way!
I have been tutoring since 2012 when I was in my second year at the University of Warwick. I have trained and worked as a History teacher and have marked A Level examination scripts. I have worked with students from all walks of life and with different abilities and age groups. For example, I helped an autistic student finish his KS2 curriculum and have also worked with visually impaired children as a volunteer for the charity Visually Impaired Children Taking Action (VICTA).
I offer tutoring in History, Sociology, English Literature, English as a foreign language and Russian (I am bilingual in English and Russian.) I also work with children to help them with certain parts of English, such as spelling, punctuation and grammar. While I mainly work with children at the level of KS3 onwards, I am always happy to help children with the English part of the KS2 curriculum and lower. I have a good track record of helping my students both to achieve and exceed their target grades, and in most cases fall back in love with a subject they had given up on!
My teaching style for the most part is a blend of traditional and interactive elements. I believe in the power of a structured lesson with a beginning, middle, and end. At the start of my lessons I like to do what I call a ‘check in’ where we review the material covered in the previous lesson and make sure that we are ready to go. Similarly I like to do a ‘check out’ at the end of the lesson where my students can ask me any lingering questions once we have reviewed the material we have covered. My online lessons in particular involve collaborative work and interactive activities such as Kahoot to help my students consolidate their learning and have fun at the same time! Most importantly, I ensure that each lesson is adapted to suit the needs of every single one of my students, as I strongly believe that one size does not fit all and that everyone has their own unique learning style!
I did my undergraduate degree in History and Sociology and my Masters in History at the University of Warwick from 2010-2015. After a gap year, during which I focused on volunteering and tutoring, I did my teacher training in History at Secondary school level at the University of East Anglia from 2016-2017. In the years 2017-2022 I worked as a Secondary School History Teacher in a variety of schools. In the summers of 2019 and 2023 I worked as an exam marker and marked A Level History papers focusing on the Tudors and the Wars of the Roses. Since 2023 I have been tutoring full time, tutoring student at levels ranging from KS2 to A Level.
Outside of teaching, my interests include running, spending time with my family and visiting various museums. I am an avid reader and enjoy a variety of genres, with my favourite author being Jane Austen, whose novels helped me fall in love with the English language.
So, if you are ready to learn and are in need of tutoring in one (or several) of the subjects that I have to offer then send me a message! I offer a 30 minute free trial lesson in which we can discuss further what you or your child need help with and put together a plan of action! I look forward to hearing from you!
